This tale starts off in January of the year 56 BC, and Gordianus and his family, wife Bethesda and daughter Diana, are visited by an old friend of Gordianus being the Ambassador of Egypt in Rome, Dio of Alexandria, and this Dio is fearing for his life and begging for Gordianus's help, which Gordianus cannot give and not much later in the night Dio is found murdered, stabbed to death, at Coponius's home, where he sought shelter.ĭuring his investigations, on the instigation of the Clodii, especially the dangerous and beautiful Clodia, Gordianus will encounter various precarious moments and situations, and with the help of his eldest son, Eco, he will eventually get to the bottom of this special personal case. The book is divided into four parts, Nex, Noxia, Nox, Nexus, and each chapter will possess an important piece of political history and violent death, making this a thrilling mystery that will keep you spellbound from beginning to the very end.
